Italian towns adopt tax debt relief program for citizens and businesses
The Ferrara municipal council approved a resolution to join the national "Rottamazione quinquies" scheme, which offers a streamlined settlement for local tax debts such as ICI, IMU, TARI and road‑code fines accrued between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2023. The programme, covering roughly €39 million in Ferrara, allows debtors to pay only the principal amount while waiving penalties, interest and collection fees, with the option of a 3 % annual interest on installment plans. The process is managed by the Agenzia delle Entrate‑Riscossione, with key deadlines from October 2026 to March 2027.
In Calabria, regional councilor Rosellina Madeo urged the regional assembly to extend the same favourable settlement to regional taxes and the vehicle registration fee. She called for a dedicated decree before 31 July, arguing that the region can incorporate its own levies into the scheme despite the lack of a national decision on the car tax.
Both initiatives aim to ease the financial burden on citizens, families and enterprises while improving tax collection efficiency.
