Italian towns Bacoli, Cremona win Legambiente sustainability awards

The municipality of Bacoli in the Campania region received the national "Comune Riciclone 2026" award, presented by Legambiente at the Hotel Quirinale in Rome with the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and the Regional Government of Lazio. The prize, now in its 23rd edition, recognises Bacoli as the first Italian town with more than 15,000 residents to achieve the lowest amount of non‑separated waste. Mayor Josi Gerardo Della Ragione and assessor Teresa Scotto di Luzio accepted the award, with a statement that the city’s achievement reflects the collective effort of citizens, the municipal administration and urban‑service operators.

At the same ceremony, the city of Cremona was honoured with a special mention for its green public‑procurement policies during Legambiente’s Ecoforum in Rome. Cremona reached a 95 % application rate of the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) across 16 of 19 procurement categories, placing it among the leading Italian municipalities. Director Corrado Gozzetti received the citation on behalf of the city and highlighted the role of public tendering in promoting sustainable development, social responsibility and labour quality. The award also noted Cremona’s protocol for protecting workers’ rights and legal compliance in public contracts.
