Italian towns commemorate fallen Carabinieri heroes in local ceremonies

Several Italian municipalities held solemn ceremonies to honour Carabinieri officers who gave their lives in service. In Lercara Friddi, the 88th anniversary of Carabiniere Francesco Cali’s death in 1938 was marked with a floral tribute, prayers and speeches by military and civil officials. Andria hosted a memorial for Antonio Lorusso, a Medal of Gold recipient who fell while confronting armed thieves at a naval arsenal, attended by the bishop, local officials and Carabinieri commanders. Teora observed the 80th anniversary of Giuseppe Migliore’s wartime heroism with a gathering of civic and religious leaders. In Sortino, the 23rd anniversary of a 2003 helicopter crash that killed three Carabinieri and a brigadier was commemorated with a wreath‑laying at a municipal monument and a church service. The events underscored the enduring respect for the values of duty, courage and sacrifice upheld by the Carabinieri across Italy’s communities.
