Italian towns establish memorial scholarships for young victims
In Andria, the parents of Alessandro Girasole, who died at age 12, created the "Beyond Borders: A Door to the World" scholarship to reward students aged 11 to 14 who demonstrate curiosity about other cultures, altruism, social inclusion and teamwork. Mayor Giovanna Bruno highlighted the award’s focus on language learning and cultural exchange.
In Loano, the municipal administration honored the memory of Janira D'Amato by awarding her parents the "Universo in Rosa" prize and launching scholarships for local students. Mayor Luca Lettieri and council president Monica Caccia noted the initiative’s role in preventing violence against women and promoting healthy relationships. The program includes a "Red Box" at the Alberghiero Migliorini institute and has so far granted 23 scholarships.
