Italian towns expand social services with new staff and volunteer-driven aid programs

Adrano municipality in Sicily hired seven new professionals—two psychologists, two educators, two accountants and one administrative staff—to strengthen its social services, aiming for more effective, timely assistance to vulnerable residents. Mayor Salvo Italia said the multidisciplinary team will work with existing social workers to improve internal organization and bureaucratic efficiency.

In Torre del Moro, the Emporio Solidale “Il Barco” reported that in 2025 it assisted 531 individuals from 211 families, including 161 minors and 87 people with certified disabilities. The centre operates a points‑based allocation system, supported by 59 volunteers from local associations and partners such as the Red Cross and ADRA, and provides free transport for groceries. The program aims to promote autonomy and inclusion for the most vulnerable.
