Italian towns expand waste collection services and launch recycling campaign

The municipality of Sciacca (Sicily) will provide free waste‑collection bags to market traders and install a dedicated container for organic waste in the food area of the San Michele market starting Saturday, 13 June. The measures, announced by the assessors for Commerce, Fairs and Markets Ludovico Moreno Luna and for the Environment and Waste Management Salvino Patti, complement the mobile toilet facilities introduced the previous week and will be evaluated after a trial period.

In Livorno, the waste‑management firm Aamps unveiled a rebranding and a new website together with the “Teniamo in circolo la città” communication campaign. The initiative will send practical recycling guides to about 85 000 households and build two new collection centers on Via delle Corallaie and Via Peppino Impastato, funded by a nearly €4 million grant from the Tuscany region. Local officials, including Mayor Luca Salvetti, Environment Assessor Giovanna Cepparello and Aamps administrator Aldo Iacomelli, highlighted the goal of improving citizen participation and overall waste‑management quality.
