Italian towns fight ongoing wildfires in Collelongo and Maracalagonis

In the Abruzzo town of Collelongo, a wildfire that has burned for four days remains a serious threat. Municipal authorities re‑activated the local emergency centre (Coc) to coordinate monitoring and clean‑up of the fire‑affected slopes of Monte Malpasso. Helicopters are being used to drop water and to ferry volunteers to the active fronts, while a water tank installed at the summit feeds hoses that target hidden hotspots. The mayor warned residents to stay vigilant and follow safety instructions until the area is fully secured.

On the island of Sardinia, the fire that broke out in Maracalagonis on 11 July was brought under control within about four hours. The town’s mayor thanked firefighters, volunteers and citizens for their cooperation and urged the public to continue obeying official directions to prevent future incidents.
