Italian towns Foligno and Soverato unveil 2026 sports award initiatives

The municipality of Foligno announced the creation of ten "Premi allo Sport – Città di Foligno 2026" to recognize teams, athletes, personalities and associations across categories such as Fair Play, Sport Femminile and the Enfant Prodige. Each award includes a €200 purchase voucher. Applications must be submitted by 12:00 CET on 26 August 2026, and the ceremony will take place on 6 September 2026 at Palazzo Trinci.

In Calabria, CONI Calabria presented two major 2026 events at the Magna Graecia Film Festival in Soverato. On 19 August 2026 the historic passage of the 1960 Olympic flame will be commemorated, while the Gran Galà dello Sport will be held on 14 November 2026, awarding roughly 70 Italian, European and world champions. The evening also saw the Silver Star for Sporting Merit awarded to Antonio Matozzo, longtime president of Volley Soverato, by CONI officials Consolato Scopelliti and regional sport assessor Eulalia Micheli.
