Italian towns hold rescue and civil‑protection awareness days

In Panza, the secondary school of the Istituto Comprensivo “Forio 2” hosted a “Giornata del Soccorritore” to promote civic safety and solidarity. The event was inspired by the heroic act of primary‑school student Osvaldo Marinelli, who rescued a cyclist, and featured demonstrations by the fire brigade, Carabinieri and local rescue associations. Participants received certificates and were taught the importance of helmets, first‑aid and helping others.

Later that day in La Spezia, Piazza Europa became the headquarters of “Una giornata con la Protezione Civile”. Regional civil‑protection assessor Giacomo Raul Giampedrone said, “This square best represents the value of Civil Protection: a large family of volunteers, technicians, institutions, law‑enforcement and associations working together for citizens’ safety.” The open‑air fair offered information on local risks, emergency procedures and included displays from volunteers, the fire service, the Red Cross and other rescue groups, encouraging residents to prepare families for emergencies.
