Italian towns host major art exhibitions featuring restored Renaissance paintings and 20th‑century sculpture

A ribbon‑cutting ceremony on 31 July marked the opening of the exhibition “Ritorno nel Chianti. Dipinti del XIV e XV secolo” in Castellina in Chianti. Three restored 14th‑ and 15th‑century tempera paintings – a Madonna with Child and saints, another Madonna with saints, and a crucifix – are returned to their original religious settings after a five‑year conservation effort led by restorer Monica Mancini and art historians Nicoletta Matteuzzi, Lucia Bencistà and Annarubina Cateni. The event was attended by Tuscany’s regional president Eugenio Giani, Siena province president Agnese Carletti, mayor Giuseppe Stiaccini and other local officials. The works will remain on display in the town’s historic Rocca Quattrocentesca from 31 July 2026 until 10 January 2027.

Meanwhile, the Tuscan city of Massa opened a major sculpture exhibition showcasing 20th‑century Italian masters such as Marino Marini, Giacomo Manzù, Pietro Consagra and Arnaldo Pomodoro, complemented by multimedia panels, workshops and talks. On the shores of Lake Maggiore, Cannobio presented a Neo‑Pop show highlighting contemporary artists who blend irony and vivid colour. Both exhibitions aim to revive interest in Italy’s artistic heritage and attract visitors from across the country and abroad.
