Italian towns host summer astronomy evenings

Manciano in Tuscany will hold the third edition of the "Numera Stellas" night on 12 August. The programme includes free astronomy and electromagnetism workshops for participants over 15, a buffet aperitif, a concert by the Giuseppe Verdi Philharmonic of Montemerano and a guided walk. The evening will conclude with telescopic observations and video projections of the sky together with astrophysicist Gianluca Masi.

In Pisa, a night of astronomical observation is scheduled for 25 July on the tower of Santa Maria in Piazza dei Miracoli. Telescopes will be set up 25 metres high, and visitors can learn about the Moon, which will appear in a gibbous phase. The event, organised by local cooperatives and the University of Pisa’s Museum of Physics Instruments, costs €10 for adults and €5 for children up to eight years.

Both evenings are aimed at the public, require advance booking and charge a modest fee for refreshments, while the core scientific activities are free of charge.
