Italy public stargazing events

Entities: Movimento Turismo del Vino (MTV) Italia · Centro Didattico Scientifico con EcoPlanetario di Tradate · Perseids meteor shower · Unione Astrofili Italiani (UAI) · Tradate

Overview

Italian towns and astronomy groups have kept summer stargazing programmes active. A late‑July notice promoted the third "Numera Stellas" night in Manciano, Tuscany, with free workshops, concerts and guided telescope sessions, while Pisa offered a tower‑top observation with low‑cost entry and complimentary scientific activities.

A few days later a free high‑altitude telescope night was announced for Agriturismo Il Rifugio (over 1,000 m), together with a guide to Italy’s best Dark‑Sky sites for the Perseids meteor shower. The guide highlighted Allai in Sardinia as the nation’s first officially certified Dark‑Sky town.

In August 2025 the Associazione Stellaria again organised a free public telescope night at Agriturismo Il Rifugio, adding a vegetarian dinner, hands‑on assistance and mandatory WhatsApp reservations. The same period’s guide listed peak Perseids activity (22 h 12 Aug – 04 h 13 Aug) and noted the appearance of comet 10P/Tempel 2, a Moon‑Venus‑Jupiter conjunction on 20 August, and reaffirmed Allai’s “Village of the Stars” status.

Looking ahead to August 2026, the Centro Didattico Scientifico con EcoPlanetario in Tradate will host a family‑friendly "Picnic scientifico sotto le stelle" on 1 August, with a picnic, a talk on nocturnal animals and telescope observations; admission is €15 for adults and €10 for youths, with children under four free, and reservations required. From 10 to 12 August, the Unione Astrofili Italiani will roll out its nationwide "Notti delle stelle" programme, inviting the public to view the Perseids, attend expert talks and enjoy wine‑tasting events organised by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, targeting both adults and children across Italy.
