Italian towns inaugurate new basketball playgrounds

In Melito di Porto Salvo, Sicily, the municipal administration led by Mayor Tito Nastasi opened a new outdoor basketball playground on 3 August 2026. The ceremony featured a ribbon‑cutting, youth games, a shooting competition and a friendly match between local all‑star teams, accompanied by music and dance performances.

In Varese, Lombardy, the outdoor court at the Campus is being refurbished and will be inaugurated on 13 September 2026. The project, promoted by the Basket Siamo Noi association, marks the end of the 80‑year celebration of Pallacanestro Varese and the 10th anniversary of the association. Fund‑raising efforts have raised €37,050 of a €46,000 target, with the remaining €8,950 needed to complete the installation of boards, hoops, nets and bleachers. The new court’s design incorporates the city’s skyline, club trophies and a tribute to Paul Talamoni.
