Italian towns introduce free market waste bags and summer recycling schedule
In the San Michele market in Sciacca, municipal officials will from 13 June distribute free waste‑collection bags to commercial operators and place a dedicated organic‑waste container in the food area. The initiative, announced alongside mobile toilet facilities, will be monitored during a trial period before any permanent expansion.
The municipality of Cisterna has issued a summer door‑to‑door recycling calendar that runs through 29 August. Glass and green waste will be collected on alternating Saturdays, while organic waste will be collected on Mondays and Thursdays, residual waste on Tuesdays, paper and cardboard on Wednesdays, and diapers on Tuesdays and Thursdays using special transparent bags. No collection will occur on 15 August. Residents are asked to follow the schedule to improve efficiency and keep the city clean.
