Italian municipalities open inclusive co‑housing projects for disabled and seniors

From 1 July, the Consorzio Servizi Sociali Ambito A5 launches the "Estate al Centro – Un territorio da vivere" programme in the Irpinia towns of Montoro, Solofra and Montefusco. The initiative offers weekly outdoor outings, creative workshops and psycho‑educational activities aimed at social inclusion and well‑being for people with disabilities.

In Savona, a PNRR‑funded renovation of a former social service building creates a modern, barrier‑free co‑housing unit for twelve elderly residents, featuring independent apartments, domotics and shared communal spaces.

The Magenta municipality inaugurates two "Dopo di noi" apartments, providing seven residential places and an extra relief bed for people with disabilities lacking family support. Managed by the cooperative Il Portico, the facilities focus on fostering autonomy, employment pathways and community integration.

San Giorgio a Cremano opens two co‑housing units for twelve disabled adults, repurposing former residential blocks previously linked to organised crime. Funded by the PNRR and implemented by the cooperative Bambù ONLUS, the homes include modern, barrier‑free design, domotic systems and programmes for training and social participation.

In Sanremo, the former Verezzo school is transformed into an integrated welfare centre offering protected apartments, co‑housing for disabled residents and temporary housing for people facing extreme poverty. The project, also financed through the PNRR, aims to support independent living, prevent hospital readmissions and strengthen local social services.
