Italian towns roll out free mosquito larvicide programs

The municipality of Porto Mantovano in Lombardy is restarting its summer mosquito‑control campaign, offering residents free larvicide tablets for domestic use. Distribution began on 10 June at the town’s public pharmacy, with kits available on weekdays and weekends until 14 June. The tablets are intended for treatment of stagnant water such as ornamental ponds, fountains, unused pools and rain‑water collectors, and officials warned that “stagnant water represents the ideal environment for egg deposition and larval development.”

In Sicily, the Ecology Office of Modica announced a night‑time larvicidal spray on 8 June in the coastal districts of Marina di Modica and Maganuco. Residents were asked to keep windows closed, keep pets indoors and avoid leaving water or food outdoors. The intervention is part of the town’s broader hygiene and public‑health plan aimed at reducing insect proliferation during the summer season.
