Italian towns roll out new disability inclusion initiatives
In Assisi, councilor Serena Morosi (Fratelli d’Italia) announced the filing of a motion to create a permanent municipal commission on disability and inclusion. The proposal, signed by several council members, aims to coordinate administration, social services and local associations, monitor policy implementation and promote universal accessibility, building on the town’s existing territorial plan.
In Sardinia, the association Impatto Teatro, funded by the municipal social‑cohesion programme, launched the “Storie, voci e luoghi accessibili” project. About 80 participants with various disabilities took part in workshops on theatre, dance, videomaking and creative writing. The initiative culminated in the urban performance “Svela Quartu”. Participants shared personal stories, for example Mercedes Dessì said, “Ballare è sempre stato il mio sogno e adesso ci sono riuscita,” illustrating how artistic activity helps break barriers and foster community inclusion.
