Italian towns Saponara, Mazzarrà Sant’Andrea and Calvi dell'Umbria earn top recycling honors

Saponara and Mazzarrà Sant’Andrea in Sicily were placed among the national list of “Comuni Ricicloni” compiled by Legambiente with the patronage of the Ministry of the Ecological Transition. Saponara achieved a 78 % separate‑waste collection rate, while Mazzarrà Sant’Andrea recorded 74.1 %, reflecting the continuity of policies set by former and current municipal executives.

Calvi dell’Umbria was again recognised on the regional podium, obtaining its eighth consecutive award for recycling performance. The town reported per‑capita waste generation of about 50 kg and a separation rate exceeding 85 %. The prize was presented at the Ecoforum national ceremony in Rome in 2025, with Mayor Sandro Spaccasassi highlighting the community‑wide effort behind the achievement.
