Italian towns Terlizzi and Treviso hold major August religious festivals

In Terlizzi, Puglia, the Festa Maggiore for the Madonna of Sovereto will begin on 8 August. The celebration features a solemn Eucharist presided over by Bishop Domenico Basile, the participation of Mayor Michelangelo De Chirico, and a procession of a 22‑metre triumphal carriage pulled by 60 men and accompanied by about 120 children and a statue of Saint Michael the Archangel.

In Treviso, the Festa dell’Assunta will be observed on 15 August with a mass at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore led by Bishop Michele Tomasi. Mayor Mario Conte will renew the traditional offering of a votive candle to the Madonna Granda. The day will conclude with an evening concert in Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, and all city markets will remain closed for the Ferragosto holiday.
