Italian travelers plan 2026 summer trips despite price and security concerns
A survey by the Istituto Piepoli for the Rome Chamber of Commerce found that 70% of Italians intend to take a summer holiday in the next four months, yet 54% have altered or are uncertain about their plans because of rising costs and global instability. High prices—cited by 65% of respondents—and international security worries are the main drivers of caution.
While the preferred destination remains Italy for 56% of those surveyed, 23% are shifting to locations they deem safer and 21% plan to stay within the country, avoiding overseas trips. Budget pressures are evident: 48% expect to keep holiday spending unchanged, but 34% anticipate cutting their travel budget.
A broader Teleborsa poll shows a similar trend worldwide, with 74% of global respondents planning a summer vacation in 2026, and 67% of Italians expressing the same intent. The travel sector is thus facing resilient demand tempered by higher price sensitivity and heightened security expectations.
