Italian unions announce strikes for public transport and maritime workers

The UGL Autoferro Genova union has called a four‑hour strike on Monday, 20 July 2026, for AMT public‑transport employees in Genoa. Workers on urban routes will stop from 11:30 to 15:30, while those on intermediate shifts will cease work in the latter part of their shift; provincial services will observe a similar schedule from 10:30 to 14:30. Disabled‑passenger services will continue, and limited provincial transport for seniors and special contracts will be maintained. In the previous strike on 11 July, 75.7 % of urban operators participated.

The Confederazione Sindacale Lavoratori Europei (Csle) announced a strike of Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) maritime staff from 12 p.m. on 22 July to midnight on 23 July. The action stems from the company's refusal to engage in negotiations with the union, leaving shipboard representatives without a bargaining platform. Csle highlights poor working conditions, excessive hours on international routes, and denied access to essential services such as Wi‑Fi, arguing that the dispute threatens the broader Italian maritime sector.
