Stellantis faces union demand for clear future of Melfi plant

The UILM union of Basilicata issued a press release condemning the incident at Stellantis' Melfi plant on Friday, calling it a severe example of chronic disorganization stemming from years of flawed decisions. The union blames the management of CEO Tavares, uncontrolled delocalisation of production and materials, and international tensions for the plant’s difficulties, which are occurring as Melfi prepares to launch the new Jeep Compass and start production of the DS7 and Lancia Gamma.

UILM demands a decisive change in strategy, concrete industrial decisions, and a stable work organization that guarantees regular pay for all workers. It calls for an urgent industrial round‑table, scheduled for 14 July, to secure reliable production volumes and a credible plan for the plant and its supply chain. The union stresses that workers need certainty to plan their lives with dignity and that the broader Italian automotive sector requires a shared industrial strategy.
