Italian unions push for health staffing and school bonus payments

Union federations CGIL, UIL, Nursind and Nursing‑Up issued an open letter to the regional health authority in Enna, Sicily, demanding urgent hiring of medical staff, reduction of reliance on retirees and extra‑shift arrangements, and a reform of hospital governance to improve patient care and working conditions. They highlighted low participation in recruitment calls, high costs of supplementary services, and called for the removal of political interference in health management.

In the education sector, the confederations FLC‑CGIL, CISL Scuola and UIL Scuola RUA criticized the Fondazione Cresciamo’s decision to postpone the payment of productivity bonuses to school workers, arguing that the delay violates article 6 of the collective labour agreement. The unions demanded immediate payment as scheduled and warned that repeated postponements could systematically disadvantage staff.
