Italian unions rally against procurement policy and emergency health staffing cuts

Italian trade unions have launched protests over two separate disputes. In Sicily, the Filctem Cgil, Femca Cisl and Uiltec Uil unions demanded an urgent dialogue with Confindustria, accusing the public‑contracting authority Isab of a procurement policy that “suffocates” subcontractors. They warned that the policy forced the long‑standing Sait contractor to abandon a site after more than 15 years, citing unsustainable economic losses and contract‑dumping that threatens workers’ rights and wages.

In Calabria, the Fsi‑Usae, Nursing Up and USB unions announced a state of agitation among emergency‑room and 118 ambulance staff, saying the regional agreement of 25 June excluded part of the workforce from an indemnity. They highlighted chronic staff shortages, outdated equipment, inadequate protective gear and unsafe working conditions, and called for an immediate negotiating table with the regional government to address these crises.
