Italian universities rank highly in 2026 GRAS academic rankings

Italian universities have achieved high global standings in the 2026 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). In the field of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, four Italian institutions placed within the world's top 50. The University of Naples Federico II ranked 6th globally with 232.4 points, followed by the University of Milan at 23rd, the University of Florence at 45th, and Sapienza University of Rome at 49th.

Italy also ranks among the top ten globally in Veterinary Medicine. The University of Milan secured 10th place, closely followed by the University of Bologna in 11th, the University of Pisa in 27th, and the University of Padua in 39th. Additionally, the European University Institute in Fiesole ranked 11th worldwide in Political Science.

The GRAS rankings evaluate 20,000 courses and departments across 2,000 universities in 100 countries, utilizing seven key parameters including scientific publication quality, research impact, and international collaborations. Beyond pharmacy and veterinary medicine, Italian institutions also hold significant positions in Economics, Physics, Political Science, and Engineering.
