Overview

The 2026 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), published by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, has highlighted the research performance of various international institutions across multiple disciplines.

In Mexico, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) secured the highest ranking for any Mexican institution, notably placing 41st globally in Veterinary Sciences. UNAM also showed strength in Ecology, Atmospheric Sciences, and Earth Sciences. In Spain, the University of Cantabria maintained standings in several fields, including Marine/Oceanographic Engineering, where it ranks among the top 100 globally.

Italian universities also achieved high standings in the rankings. Four Italian institutions placed within the top 50 globally for Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, led by the University of Naples Federico II at 6th place. Italy also ranks among the top ten globally in Veterinary Medicine, with the University of Milan securing 10th place. Other notable Italian achievements include the European University Institute ranking 11th worldwide in Political Science.
