Italian universities rank highly in 2026 GreenMetric sustainability report

The 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings have been released, evaluating 2,016 institutions across 110 countries on their commitment to environmental sustainability, energy savings, and climate action.

In Italy, several universities achieved high global standings. The Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM) rose to 82nd place globally, improving 14 positions from the previous year, and ranks 7th in Italy. The Università di Torino and Politecnico di Torino also showed significant progress, ranking 11th and 13th globally, respectively.

Specific category achievements include the Università di Torino ranking 3rd worldwide in ‘Energy and Climate Change’ and leading Italy in ‘Water’ management. The Politecnico di Torino secured 2nd place globally in the newly introduced ‘Governance and Digitalization’ category. The Università di Bologna remains a top performer, holding the 9th position globally.
