UI GreenMetric 2026 university sustainability rankings

Overview

The 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings evaluated 2,016 institutions across 110 countries based on environmental sustainability, energy savings, and climate action.

In Italy, several institutions achieved high global standings. The Università di Torino ranked 11th globally and 3rd in the ‘Energy and Climate Change’ category, while Politecnico di Torino ranked 13th globally and 2nd in the ‘Governance and Digitalization’ category. The Università di Bologna held the 9th position globally, and Università Politecnica delle Marche rose to 82nd place.

In Turkey, 150 universities were included in the rankings. Turkey ranked first in Europe and second globally for the number of universities appearing in the top 200, 500, and 1,000 lists. Five Turkish universities placed in the global top 100, led by Istanbul Technical University at 28th. Turkish universities in the top 200 achieved high success rates in categories such as ‘Governance and Digital Transformation’ and ‘Education and Research’.
