Italian urban regeneration projects unveiled in Castel Maggiore and at Mardin congress

The municipality of Castel Maggiore (Bologna province) worked with the University of Parma’s Department of Engineering and Architecture and its Sustainable Architectural Design Laboratory. Students presented urban design models that emphasize greener spaces, permeable surfaces, new cycling‑pedestrian routes and better inter‑neighbourhood connections, intended to inform the next General Urban Plan.

Researchers Celestina Fazia and Antonella Postorino from the University of Kore in Enna presented their work on the OXYGEN modular housing platform and the SS_AU Settlements model for emergency management. Developed from space‑technology concepts, the self‑sufficient, quickly deployable housing units aim to support urban regeneration and disaster response. Their study, first highlighted at the Cankaya International Congress in Ankara, was selected for full publication and will be presented at the International Scientific Research and Innovation Congress in Mardin, Turkey, in July 2026, where they will be the sole Italian representatives.
