Italian volunteer and donor groups host summer events promoting organ and blood donation
The Italian Association of Organ Donation and Transplant (AIDO) organised a series of summer activities across Emilia‑Romagna, Lombardy and other regions. Events included a youth band contest in Cesena, a beach‑volley tournament in Zocca featuring the national transplant athletes team, a theatrical performance in Strigara, a historic car‑slalom race in Predappio and a human chain in the water at Aquafan Riccione, all aimed at raising public awareness of organ donation and encouraging community participation.
In Basilicata, the regional blood‑donor federation FIDAS held its Festa del Donatore e del Volontario at the Santuario del SS. Crocifisso di Brienza. The ceremony honoured 26 women who donated at least 40 units of blood or plasma and 19 men who donated at least 60 units. The federation reported more than 9,000 active donors and 497 new registrations in 2025. President Isabella Cammarota said, "Riteniamo importante festeggiare ogni traguardo dei nostri preziosi donatori che tendono il braccio alla solidarità in maniera costante e periodica," emphasizing the ongoing need for donations even during summer.
Both initiatives underscore a coordinated effort by Italian volunteer and donor organisations to sustain organ and blood supplies throughout the year.
