Italian volunteer rescue groups celebrate 50th and 160th anniversaries

The White Cross of Ceva marked its 50th year of service with three days of events in the town from June 19‑21. A ceremonial opening, a parade through the streets, the blessing of a new ambulance for the local 118 emergency service and a cultural evening featuring music and book presentations were attended by regional officials, the mayor, and representatives of the ANPAS association. The celebration highlighted the association’s half‑century role in medical rescue, transport and community assistance in the Ceva area.

In Piacenza, the Italian Red Cross commemorated its 160th anniversary with a public festival on the city’s main promenade. Citizens visited informational stands, watched demonstrations of rescue vehicles, received free vital‑sign check‑ups and took part in activities aimed at children. Giuseppe Colla, the provincial president, spoke about the organisation’s history and its ongoing humanitarian work. Both events underscored the long‑standing presence of volunteer emergency services in local Italian communities.
