Italian Water Projects Grapple with Funding Shortfall and Flood Protection Completion

In Veneto, the 44‑million‑euro PFAS‑free irrigation pipeline intended to deliver clean water to over 5,000 hectares of farmland is stalled by an estimated €5 million funding gap. The ANBI warns that farmers and local citizens should not bear the additional cost, calling the shortfall a breach of equity principles.

Separately, in the Bologna area, work on the Savena Abbandonato embankment has been finished, installing deep impermeable diaphragms to prevent flood infiltration. The €300,000 project was financed by a governmental reconstruction fund and aims to protect surrounding soils and urban areas from future flood events.
