Italian wine producers adapt to climate challenges during 2026 harvest

Wine cooperatives within The Wine Net, representing over 5,200 hectares from Piedmont to Sicily, are adapting technical strategies to address the 2026 harvest season's climatic challenges. Drought and intense heat have impacted yields in several regions.

In the Maremma region, a period of heavy spring rain followed by prolonged heat led to an estimated yield reduction of nearly 20% for both red and white grapes. To mitigate these effects, producers such as Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano have implemented specific measures, including avoiding leaf removal to protect clusters from direct sun exposure and limiting skin contact during cellar processes to prevent over-ripening notes.

Despite these challenges, sugar accumulation remains consistent with previous years, and initial qualitative indicators for red wines and white wine aromas remain positive.

In Cerignola, the fifth edition of the CeriWine festival is scheduled for October 30, 2026, at Palazzo Fornari. The event celebrates the end of the harvest by highlighting local enological identities, including Nero di Troia and Rosso di Cerignola DOC, alongside local products like Senatore Cappelli wheat and Bella di Cerignola DOP olives.
