Italian workers protest poor conditions in police and cultural sectors

Police officers in Taranto have written an open letter describing severe fatigue, insufficient staffing and hostile social‑media pressure, saying, “Siamo esausti e soli tra carenze e attacchi” and noting that wearing the uniform now feels “like a survival exercise.” The letter calls for clearer directives, more hires and better public support for the local police force.

At the same time, cultural‑sector employees across Italy staged a nationwide strike, demanding a minimum wage of €4 per hour and an end to precarious contracts. Demonstrators in Rome, Milan, Naples and other cities protested that “the salaries in this sector are terrible” and called for a universal basic income to compensate for unpaid work that keeps museums, libraries and theatres open.

Both actions highlight growing discontent among Italian public‑service workers over low pay, understaffing and inadequate recognition, putting pressure on local and national authorities to address systemic labour‑precarity.
