Italian youth view digital impact as severe as fossil fuels

A study from the third edition of the Youth & Sustainability Observatory, promoted by Angelini Industries in collaboration with Quorum/YouTrend and Csa Research, reveals that 46% of Italians under 30 believe the environmental impact of digital technology is as severe as that of fossil fuels or deforestation. This figure is higher than the 41% reported by the rest of the population.

To address these concerns, 45% of young respondents identify reducing the energy consumption of new devices as a primary necessary action. While 64% of those surveyed report using their devices efficiently, 22% show a preference for circular economy solutions, such as purchasing used or refurbished smartphones and computers.

Regarding broader sustainability views, 57% of the Under 30 demographic link sustainability primarily to reducing the environmental impact of human activities, marking a 6 percentage point increase compared to previous data. Additionally, 34% believe sustainability involves simultaneously promoting environmental protection and social well-being.
