Italy: 128,000 women identified as victims of economic violence

An investigation by mUp Research for Facile.it has identified 128,000 women in Italy who are victims of economic violence. This phenomenon includes women who cannot manage their own finances or lack personal income because their partners prevent them from working.

The study highlights several facets of this issue. Among women with personal income or savings, 26,000 report that their partner manages their funds. This is particularly prevalent among women aged 25 to 34, those living in Southern Italy and the Islands, or those in municipalities with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants.

Furthermore, 498,000 women with an income stated they must frequently or always justify their personal spending to their partner. This behavior is observed across various ages but is more common among women with minor children. Additionally, 102,000 women reported having no personal income or savings because their partners forbid them from working, a trend that is twice as frequent in Central and Southern Italy compared to the North.
