Italy launches Carta Dedicata a Te 2026 food assistance payments

The Italian government has commenced the distribution of the Carta Dedicata a Te, a prepaid card designed to support low-income families with essential food purchases. Starting November 4, 2026, an initial credit of 500 euros is being issued to approximately 1.17 million households. A second installment of 500 euros is scheduled for April 2027, providing a total of 1,000 euros per family over the two-year period.

Beneficiaries are automatically identified by INPS based on an ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) not exceeding 15,000 euros. Priority is given to families with at least three members, particularly those with minor children. To prevent misuse, the funds cannot be used for alcoholic beverages or fuel. Recipients must make at least one purchase by December 16, 2026, to avoid the card being blocked.

Existing cardholders will receive the funds automatically on their current cards, while new beneficiaries will be notified by their local municipalities to collect their cards at post offices. Various municipalities, including Aosta, Bitonto, and Ladispoli, have already published lists of eligible residents.
