Italy advances railway upgrades with Benevento line test run and new Florence Guidoni station funding

On July 9, a reconnaissance train travelled the Benevento‑Cancello line via Valle Caudina, organized by regional officials and the railway operators EAV and RFI, with participation of local mayors. The trip aimed to assess the status of works funded by the PNRR, including new signalling (SCMT) and safety systems supplied by Hitachi Rail. Completion of remaining works and technical tests are expected by September, with full line reopening planned for January 2027.

The Campania regional council approved a €3 million allocation in the latest budget amendment to complete the new Guidoni railway station on the Florence‑Pisa line. The funding will cover construction and acoustic mitigation measures, supporting intermodal connections to the airport, tram, university and business district. Regional president Giani described the station as a strategic hub that will free high‑speed tracks for regional services and improve urban mobility.
