Italy advances space sector through education and research

Italy is advancing its space sector through new educational initiatives and scientific research. The School of Astronautics in Arezzo has announced free online courses for high school students in Tuscany, scheduled from October 2026 to February 2027. The 60-hour program aims to provide foundational training for future space professionals and will feature contributions from experts and astronauts such as Umberto Guidoni and Luca Parmitano.

In academic research, the University of Tuscia (Unitus) has emerged as a leader in national space projects. Five of its multidisciplinary research proposals have passed the initial evaluation phase by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) for the Axiom 5 (Ax-5) orbital mission, planned for late 2027. These projects cover diverse fields, including neuroscience and spatial perception in microgravity, space nutrition, plant life protection in weightlessness, and the genetics of adaptation.
