Italian space sector development
Overview
Italy is expanding its involvement in the space sector through industrial, educational, and scientific initiatives. Industry leaders and researchers recently convened in Turin for the ‘Space Economy: The New Frontier of Innovation’ forum to discuss aerospace supply chain priorities, such as capital access, technology transfer, and international competitiveness.
Educational and research efforts are also growing. The School of Astronautics in Arezzo has introduced free online courses for high school students to train future space professionals. Additionally, the University of Tuscia has seen five of its multidisciplinary research proposals pass initial evaluation by the Italian Space Agency for the Axiom 5 orbital mission, scheduled for late 2027. These studies will investigate topics including microgravity neuroscience, space nutrition, and plant life protection.
