Italy advances stadium bids for Euro 2032 hosting

Italian cities are advancing infrastructure bids to host the Euro 2032 football championship. In Sicily, President Renato Schifani announced that the regional government has allocated 60 million euros in FSC resources to support the construction of a modern stadium in Palermo. The initiative aims to allow Palermo to compete effectively for hosting rights and to drive regional development through public-private synergy.

In Naples, local officials expressed optimism regarding the city's candidacy. Infrastructure Councilor Edoardo Cosenza noted that Naples holds a competitive advantage because it possesses an existing stadium and an approved project, with works expected to begin soon. The proposed renovation of the Maradona stadium, potentially reaching a 66,000-seat capacity, is projected for completion by 2030, meeting UEFA's requirements ahead of the 2031 deadline.

The Italian Football Federation is expected to select five candidate projects by September 30 to submit to UEFA for a final decision, which is anticipated around October 10.
