Italy advances water supply projects in Uri and Cassano

In the Sardinian municipality of Uri, technicians from the water utility Abbanoa will activate a new segment of the Bidighinzu aqueduct on 7 July. The €1.2 million work, financed by regional funds, reroutes the pipe away from a landslide‑prone area and will require water service to be suspended from 08:00 to 20:00, with possible pressure drops and temporary interruptions for residents of Urie, Olmedo and nearby hamlets. Abbanoa has set up a 24‑hour hotline for any faults and expects normal water quality to resume after the pipeline is refilled.

Separately, in Cassano allo Ionio, the irrigation service of the Lattughelle plant has been re‑activated. The facility, damaged by winter floods, had about 2 km of primary canals replaced with polyethylene tubing. The reconstruction, funded by the Masaf program, proceeded after archaeological clearance from the local heritage authority. The restored system will improve water‑use efficiency for the region’s agriculture and precedes the installation of a new high‑pressure, water‑saving irrigation network.
