Italy allocates €136 million to support farmers against rising fertilizer costs

The Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry has approved a decree to provide over 136 million euros to support farmers facing rising fertilizer costs. This initiative stems from production cost increases linked to geopolitical instability in the Middle East.

The funding is composed of approximately 45 million euros from the European agricultural reserve and an additional 91 million euros in national resources. The aid is designed to compensate for 50 percent of the price increases for specific crops, including cereals, wheat, rice, corn, oil, hazelnuts, sugar beet, and rapeseed.

Targeting over 547,000 Italian farmers, the funds will be distributed via direct credit to beneficiaries' accounts to minimize bureaucratic delays. Regional officials, such as Veneto's Agriculture Assessor Dario Bond, noted that approximately 15 million euros of the total fund are earmarked for Venetian agricultural businesses.
