Italy and India record strong renewable power additions in first half of 2026

In Italy, new photovoltaic power connected in the first six months of 2026 reached 3.1 GW, a 12 % increase over the same period in 2025. Growth was driven by larger‑scale installations, while residential connections fell 19 % to 507 MW. By the end of June 2026 the country had about 2.17 million PV plants totaling roughly 46.6 GW.

India installed a record 29 GW of solar and wind capacity in the first half of 2026, including about 26 GW of solar and 2.9 GW of wind. Solar capacity grew 43 % year‑on‑year, with rooftop installations more than doubling to 6.4 GW. Wind additions slipped 16 % from the previous year. Cumulative renewable‑energy capacity reached approximately 288 GW, with Gujarat and Rajasthan leading solar deployment and Gujarat also topping wind additions.
