Italy animal welfare: Shelter agreements renewed and feline colony awareness campaigns launched

In Mantova, local official Davide Provenzano visited municipal animal shelters to confirm the renewal of management agreements through 2031. The Municipality of Mantova and ATS Valpadana have renewed contracts with the Associazione Cinofila Mantovana “Rifugio del cane abbandonato” for the dog shelter and with Associazione Gattorandagio Odv for the cat shelter.

In the Modena region, the Enpa has launched the “Abbiamo gatti in Comune” initiative to raise awareness regarding the protection of feline colonies. Local mayors and administrators from the Unione Terre di Castelli are participating in the campaign to promote owner responsibility and address the uncontrolled increase of free-roaming cats. Officials noted that abandonment and a lack of sterilization are primary drivers of growing feline populations in municipalities such as Marano, Vignola, Savignano, and Spilamberto.
