Italy arrests two suspects for deliberate forest fires

A 32‑year‑old man from Sanremo was caught by Carabinieri Forestali on 12 June 2026 while deliberately igniting vegetation on a steep slope. He was arrested in the act and later received an oral warning as a preventive measure from the provincial police chief.

On 15 June 2026, a 78‑year‑old retired farmer was apprehended in Villasor, Sardinia, after investigators observed him place an object in a wheat field that sparked a fire. He was arrested in flagrant circumstances and placed under house arrest by the Cagliari court. Both incidents highlight intensified police actions against arson in Italy's vulnerable forest and agricultural areas.
