Italy backs G7 cancer initiative and pledges security role at Evian summit

Leaders at the G7 summit in Evian adopted a Leaders’ Call on the Fight Against Cancer. The G7 Cancer Initiative welcomed the declaration and outlined four priority areas: pediatric and young‑adult cancers, tumours with poor prognosis such as pancreatic and glioblastoma, cervical‑cancer elimination through HPV vaccination and screening, and universal access to high‑quality oncology care. Italy will participate through the Alliance Against Cancer and emphasises greater collaboration, data sharing, artificial‑intelligence tools and precision medicine.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Italy is ready to contribute to missions that safeguard navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, pending parliamentary authorisation within the next 60 days. She also called for a single European mediator for Ukraine and highlighted the need for coordinated action on supply‑chain security, digital space, drug trafficking and other global challenges.
