Italy battles multiple wildfires that halt rail service and spark safety actions

A wildfire erupted around midday in the San Gregorio district on the outskirts of Casalbordino, Abruzzo, prompting the local fire brigade to extinguish the blaze quickly. After the fire was put out, volunteers from the Civil Protection association began securing the area and discussed installing camera traps to deter future illegal fires.

Separately, a large fire broke out near the railway underpass in Pontecagnano Faiano, Campania, spreading from dry vegetation and wind. The flames crossed the tracks, forcing an immediate suspension of the Salerno‑Paola line and causing significant delays for passengers. Fire crews contained the fire and protected nearby agricultural facilities.

Both incidents highlight the heightened fire risk in dry, vegetated areas of Italy this summer and the authorities' efforts to respond swiftly while considering preventive monitoring measures.
