Italy coastal regions face infrastructure and concession challenges

Various Italian coastal regions are facing significant administrative and infrastructural challenges. In the matter of beach concessions, a ruling by the Consiglio di Stato has clarified that the September 2027 deadline is a limit for completing reorganization processes rather than an automatic extension, allowing municipalities to begin new competitive bidding procedures immediately.

In Emilia-Romagna, political groups are calling for government protection of business values and compensation for departing concessionaires. Meanwhile, in Tuscany, tourism stakeholders have criticized a 547 million euro Masterplan for failing to adequately address coastal erosion with updated data and specific funding.

Infrastructure and maintenance issues are also prominent. In Reggio Calabria, the Parco Lineare Sud suffers from vandalism and abandonment of unused structures. In Livorno, local groups have denounced the degradation of the seafront and non-functional public facilities. In Ravenna, essential maintenance on the Candiano mobile bridge will necessitate traffic restrictions in September, and in Liguria, Anas S.p.A. has provided technical clarifications regarding the differing roundabout designs for the Aurelia bis projects in Imperia and Sanremo.

In Sicily, parliamentary inquiries are demanding improved maritime connectivity between Capo d’Orlando and the Aeolian Islands to ensure territorial continuity and tourism development.
