Italy boat pilot arrested after striking teenager and fleeing

A 28-year-old boat pilot has been arrested in Italy after striking a 17-year-old tourist with a vessel at high speed. The victim was transported to a hospital under ‘Codice Rosso’ (red code), the highest level of medical emergency, though doctors later reported that the immediate threat to her life had passed.

Following the collision, the pilot allegedly fled the scene. Instead of providing assistance, the individual reportedly directed the boat toward a nearby beach to land 14 Algerian migrants. Authorities, aided by coast guard aerial surveillance, intercepted the boat and detained all passengers. The pilot faces charges of assisting illegal immigration and causing very serious bodily injury.
